Why do we love Nasal Breathing as a recovery tool in CrossFit training?

It promotes your body entering a parasympathetic state, coming out of the sympathetic state it hits in the workout. This allows us to recover faster and more efficiently!

So what actually happens when you Nasal Breathe? Your nose is filled with filters (aka nose hairs) that filter particles out of the air as it enters your airway, and it also warms the air up as you breathe.

Suggested Routine after a HIIT workout:

Nasal Only Breathing whilst on a 400m Walk 800m bike 400m row

Nasal Protocols:

– 6:8 – 6 secs inhale, 8 secs exhale via nose
– 4:7:8 – 4 secs via nose, 7 hold breathe, 8 seconds exhale via mouth
